About

Le Lapin Sauté centers its culinary focus on regional French preparations featuring rabbit as a signature element. The menu emphasizes locally sourced ingredients transformed through classic market cooking techniques. Diners encounter dishes like rabbit confit and braised cuts that showcase depth of flavor and traditional preparation methods. The architectural space utilizes exposed stone walls and wooden beams to define the interior atmosphere. Tables occupy a rustic environment that reflects a historical regional building style. The selection of poultry and game selections provides a cohesive narrative centered on seasonal offerings and farm to table sensibilities. Every plate maintains a strict adherence to authentic regional standards by highlighting the versatility of game meat in modern kitchen applications.

Review Summary

Le Lapin Sauté is widely celebrated as a charming, cozy, and quintessential destination in Old Quebec City, particularly favored for its authentic rabbit and duck specialties. Many visitors praise the restaurant for its warm, welcoming staff, impeccable service, and a picturesque patio perfect for people watching in the Petit Champlain district. While the majority of diners highlight the high quality of dishes like the rabbit poutine, cassoulet, and salted honey pie, some guests have noted inconsistencies in food preparation, occasional service delays, or a preference for larger portion sizes. Despite the high demand making reservations essential, most guests consider it a must-visit venue that captures a unique, intimate atmosphere suitable for families and romantic outings alike.

Wonderful evening in this charming little spot. We enjoyed the shared appetizer featuring various preparations of duck & rabbit. Seafood cassoulet was divine as was the rabbit saddle. Our server was helpful & delightful. I definitely recommend a visit.

We loved it--the restaurant & the food. Yes, we were a little anxious about a heavy-on-rabbit menu, but my sister-in-law raves about La Lapin Saute, eats there every chance she gets, & ordered/commanded/urged us to "at least give it a try," & we're very happy we did. Got the last two reservations available on our last night in Quebec City. Phew! Friendly staff, great ambience, & wonderful food. Enjoyed a mixed platter appetizer, onion soup, rabbit pot pies, & creme brule. Saddest part? The meal came to an end. Hope to return someday.

The restaurant is beautiful, it is in the middle of Quartier Petit Champlain; the service was great. We had duck & rabbit, the duck is tasty, but rabbit is dry & not good at all.

Great food & very helpful staff. We stayed mainly with the rabbit dishes which were wonderful, & the Maple Syrup Crème Brûlée was received very enthusiastically. The staff even helped us get a taxi to come to the next street (the restaurant is in a pedestrian area) for our parents to get back up the hill to the Château Frontenac. Great night.

We really enjoyed our dining experience at Le Lapin Saute. Our server, Maude, made excellent food & wine recommendations, & she gave excellent service, too! We enjoyed the rabbit & duck platter as well as a bottle of Bordeaux wine. BTW I ordered a cocktail expecting to get a mediocre drink, but it was reallly good! So, try a cocktail & maybe something you've never eaten before like rabbit, & you will be pleasantly surprised!

I visited the restaurant for lunch with my son. The setting was warm & friendly from the moment you step in. The food was delicious! Extremely tasty & a great selection, even for my son who is selective. I had the rabbit breast with delicious sautéed vegetables served with the tasty sauces. The salad was also delicious. Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a unique experience.
