About

Le Lapin Sauté centers its culinary focus on regional French preparations featuring rabbit as a signature element. The menu emphasizes locally sourced ingredients transformed through classic market cooking techniques. Diners encounter dishes like rabbit confit and braised cuts that showcase depth of flavor and traditional preparation methods. The architectural space utilizes exposed stone walls and wooden beams to define the interior atmosphere. Tables occupy a rustic environment that reflects a historical regional building style. The selection of poultry and game selections provides a cohesive narrative centered on seasonal offerings and farm to table sensibilities. Every plate maintains a strict adherence to authentic regional standards by highlighting the versatility of game meat in modern kitchen applications.

Review Summary

Le Lapin Sauté is widely celebrated as a charming, cozy, and quintessential destination in Old Quebec City, particularly favored for its authentic rabbit and duck specialties. Many visitors praise the restaurant for its warm, welcoming staff, impeccable service, and a picturesque patio perfect for people watching in the Petit Champlain district. While the majority of diners highlight the high quality of dishes like the rabbit poutine, cassoulet, and salted honey pie, some guests have noted inconsistencies in food preparation, occasional service delays, or a preference for larger portion sizes. Despite the high demand making reservations essential, most guests consider it a must-visit venue that captures a unique, intimate atmosphere suitable for families and romantic outings alike.

Old Quebec is one of the most charming places I've ever been, & Le Lapin Saute absolutely fits in with the locale. It's a small restaurant (especially with the patio closed), but we had reservations & our vaccine passports so we got a little table all to ourselves. I have Celiac Disease, & they have a separate gluten free menu with many delicious choices. I went with the Cassoulet & had some gluten free bread on the side. My husband had the French Onion Soup & the Rabbit Pot Pie which he said were amazing. An intimate, romantic, European-style restaurant that we will definitely be visiting again!

Your food choices are varied & everything we chose was delicious. I started with the smoked salmon salad as an appetizer & then the smoked duck. My partner had the rabbit pate which was scrumptious , the cod, delicious as well & then we share the honey pie. Was lovely but a bit too rich for me.

The dish for two to share was not prepared with fresh tasting meat. It had freezer burn stale taste, both the rabbit & the duck. It had a potential to be a great meal, but the execution was poor. Other than that the service was good & we did not experience any side effects.

Atmosphere & service ( wait staff) were very very good. The restaurant called to confirm because the system allowed a 1 pm reservation even though the restaurant open at 4 pm. All outdoor dining but the weather was perfect so good news there. He straightened it out & allowed for a 6 pm time, which they honored. We ordered the saddle rabbit dish which is tricky at best because the rabbit is so lean. It came out good because they had two sauces that we were able to order one of each on each plate. I may try the pot pie rabbit next time since the meat has more time to soften. Still a good evening in Old Quebec on the lower side. Food arrived in good time & I was able to order off-menu for drinks.
