Le Lapin Sauté is widely celebrated as a charming, cozy, and quintessential destination in Old Quebec City, particularly favored for its authentic rabbit and duck specialties. Many visitors praise the restaurant for its warm, welcoming staff, impeccable service, and a picturesque patio perfect for people watching in the Petit Champlain district. While the majority of diners highlight the high quality of dishes like the rabbit poutine, cassoulet, and salted honey pie, some guests have noted inconsistencies in food preparation, occasional service delays, or a preference for larger portion sizes. Despite the high demand making reservations essential, most guests consider it a must-visit venue that captures a unique, intimate atmosphere suitable for families and romantic outings alike.
The atmosphere of this place was just what we needed on a rainy night - we sat at the balcony & listened to the rain while eating hearty food. The food itself is not mind-blowing, but is good & the portions are generous. The cassoulet for one was big enough to feed us both, which was great, but the dish itself did not feel cohesive... As if every part was cooked separately. The onion soup was good, but there was more bread than soup. Overall a nice place to stop for dinner.
Crispy stewed rabbit meat is still good, just like onion soup. I brought two rabbit legs with me, but I didn't expect any seasoning, but it was very fragrant. The small restaurant is lovely & romantic, & it is worth punching in here.
Cute restaurant with friendly staff & tasty food! This is a touristy restaurant on a fun street but the food is very good! We enjoyed the Walleye, rabbit poutine, pesto pasta, etc! There was about a 30 minute wait but there are plenty of shops on the street to visit while waiting!
We tried to brake the concept of "touristy food place equals bad food & mediocre service"....Oh well,we honestly tried. Food, food ,food. Its about food first. Unfortunately this place fell the victim of just a profit in busy area. The dish the called "Foundue" ,git that name for the sake of it. It wasn't a Foundue. Just a melted cheese,no wine,no spices... Cousoulete was tasteless, dry & overcooked. Tourte Lapin appeared to be the same overcooked & tasteless dish. Service was a bit pushy & we felt like being rushed. When you visit this place, please be objective. Don't give it a 5 stars because you feel great. Taste the food, observe the service & then give an honest review,so the next patron wouldn't become another deceived & disappointed guest of this place.
If you must eat at this place, do suggest to make a reservation to guarantee a table. We lucked out that there was a table available. Everything looks so good on the menu. Wasn't too hungry, wanted a sample of everything, on the menu there is a "To Share" . We got the "Tout lapin tout canard" - Raised rabbit leg, duck leg confit, rabbit rillettes, duck foie gras terrine, smoked duck breast, roasted garlic, vegetables, roasted potatoes, bread croutons & marinade. The foie gras, your either going to like it or not. The server that brought our dish was excellent in informing us each part of the dish.
