The Beef Wellington was well executed & enjoyable. Unfortunately, the French onion soup was overly salty. I was also disappointed that the Chef's Choice was another puff pastry dish with ham & cheese. Since we had already ordered the Beef Wellington, it felt repetitive rather than thoughtfully paired. The food was good overall, but the preparation lacked the variety & creativity I expected from chef's choice.
The absolute best French onion soup I have ever had. Perfect yummy cheesy crust & a delicious broth a must have to start. I had grandmas treats as my main & it was perfect. Service was awesome & the venue is so old & historical. Just a great dining experience.
Delicious food! We went for lunch & had the lunch special, French onion soup, ice cider, & beer. Everything was delicious. Especially the maple pie 😋. The staff was friendly, service was quick, & the ambiance was great. We'll be back!
Quintessential Québécois cuisine in a warm & charming atmosphere. Welcoming & attentive staff. Pictured: French onion soup, Grandma's treat meat pie, maple bread pudding
A charming, historic spot with a quaint atmosphere. The team was warm & hospitable, & the wine selection is excellent. The beets & escargot were definite highlights. I would pass on the French onion soup-it was a bit salty & arrived cold.
Restaurant housed in the oldest house in Quebec City. This was my third visit to the city, but my first time actually trying a traditional Quebecois restaurant. It was one of the places the staff at the Fairmont had recommended last year, so I finally came for their lunch special.
Quebec comfort food. Nothing mind-blowing or flashy, but exactly what I'd expected from a French grandma's kitchen. It actually reminded me of the dishes my French professor used to make when she hosted Thanksgiving dinners at her house. Familiar flavors, a few quirky condiments, & an overall sense of home-style warmth.
Quebec Meat Pie - Meat pie with ketchup didn't sound very French, but the ketchup turned out to be fruit ketchup. Jammy, tangy, somewhere between salsa & chutney. The diced tomatoes & beets mixed in gave it a nice twist.
Beer Bourguignon - A solid entrée. The beef was a little too lean for my taste, but otherwise comforting.
Maple Syrup Pie - Texturally closer to a soft pecan pie but much sweeter. Maple flavor got lost under all the syrup & sugar, though still enjoyable enough as a classic finisher.
We really enjoyed the ambience & history of this restaurant. The dinner was good highlight was the maple bread pudding. Beef Wellington was okay, French Onion Soup delicious & the Quebec Meat Pie was pretty good. The service was okay. We did not find the price reflected the food. It was pricey for what we got.
A boutique yet roomy restaurant. Actually located in the oldest building in town 😄. Don't miss the lunch special combos if you would like to try some authentic French cuisine.
We were in Quebec City for 4 days of vacation. We stayed in the upper old city & we were able to walk to most of the historic sites & good restaurants. We researched this restaurant from home so we went one night without a reservation. The hostess took us to the back room as the front room was all reserved. Back room was also nice. We ordered grilled salmon, escargots, sparkling water & a nice glass of French red wine. The escargots were part of the prefix dinner which I ordered. A dessert came with it. My wife ordered salmon off the menu. Food was delicious & the atmosphere was nice. An enjoyable evening. I recommend it highly.
BTW, the restaurant is a free standing 300 plus year old house.
Came here with my mom for an early dinner. What a fantastic gem this restaurant is! The service is very friendly, the food is authentic French-Canadian prepared from scratch, & the atmosphere is cozy; dine in a repurposed Old Quebec family house with wood-burning fireplace & low ceiling. It's definitely a romantic spot for a date too.
Thank you so much for the unforgettable meal! We will be back!
