I feel that I drank a whole bottle of maple syrup eating the pie, but it was so good that I'm still think about it a week later.
Had a lunch special which included wine or beer, appetizer/soup,main course, & dessert . $40 Canadian. Great service & atmosphere.
Had the lunch special. Soup, entree dessert & glass of wine or beer or soda. Had the chefs special...seafood casserole. It was delicious! We went back a second time. All for 40 bucks Canadian.
We have eaten here 4 times over the last 10 years & have enjoyed ourselves every time. Our last was on Christmas day. Serge at the front counter greated us with a smile &, with a warm welcome, walked us upstairs to our table. Julien was our server & was an excellent mix of attentive & private which allowed us to enjoy a romantic experience. While this is not a Michelin star restaurant it is deserving of as many accolades as can be imagined. You will find an excellent mixture of quebecois staples on the menu, each more tasty than the last. We decided to do the table d'hôte with an app, main, dessert & glass of wine for about $75. We overheard many of our fellow diners ohhing & ahhing over their meals. As you will read in their description this restaurant is in the oldest house in quebec city & there is a warning at the door that some of the floors are uneven & some of the celiengs are low. This oddity adds to the cozy atmosphere at Aux Anciens Canadian.
A charming, historic spot with a quaint atmosphere. The team was warm & hospitable, & the wine selection is excellent. The beets & escargot were definite highlights. I would pass on the French onion soup-it was a bit salty & arrived cold.
We had a late lunch here, enjoyed the Lunch Special starting at $39.99 CAN for 1 glass if wine or beer
A soup
A main
& dessert.
We had the Meat Pie & the Bison Burgonion.
Generous portions, food was edible, but nothing to write home about. There are plenty of restaurants in Quebec that offer outstanding food for these prices. It's ok if you want fill up on big portion of food, basic wine & dessert.
We were in Quebec City for 4 days of vacation. We stayed in the upper old city & we were able to walk to most of the historic sites & good restaurants. We researched this restaurant from home so we went one night without a reservation. The hostess took us to the back room as the front room was all reserved. Back room was also nice. We ordered grilled salmon, escargots, sparkling water & a nice glass of French red wine. The escargots were part of the prefix dinner which I ordered. A dessert came with it. My wife ordered salmon off the menu. Food was delicious & the atmosphere was nice. An enjoyable evening. I recommend it highly.
BTW, the restaurant is a free standing 300 plus year old house.
Four of us had the lunch special, three courses plus a local beer or wine for 39.99 CAD. Appetizer, main, dessert. Many options available, some with an upcharge, all very good. My vegetarian wife had enough good vegetarian options. Recommended by a guide earlier in the day, even though it wasn't one of our stops.
