Our waitress was very friendly & the food was absolutely incredible! For appetizers, my family enjoyed the very cheesy escargot dish & my dad absolutely loved the French onion soup. In terms of entrees, the filet mignon dish was tasty & the meat pie (which I was looking forward to trying in Quebec) was better than I could have ever imagined & I really enjoyed its flaky crust. For desserts, we chose the chocolate pie & the maple crème brûlée, & they were nothing short of spectacular. In fact, the crème brûlée was the best I have ever eaten! Since ordering dishes individually can really add up, I recommend ordering in the form of a formule ($39.99+ for 1 drink + 1 appetizer + 1 entree + 1 dessert), which allows you to try a complete meal for a fraction of the cost of ordering each component individually. Overall, I enjoyed dining at Aux Anciens Canadiens & hope to be back again someday!
Decor is super cute & lovely but food was not too impressive, but a good place to try "Quebec cuisine." Tried escargot, duck salad, French onion soup, maple syrup cake, chocolate pie, grandmas special(?) & more
Awesome authentic French food!!! The $39.95 deal includes a glass of wine/beer, an appetizer, main dish, & dessert. Very affordable for a lot of food. The meat pie & beef bourguignon were excellent. The escargot & pea soup were also exceptional. The crème brûlée & blueberry pie were delicious & quite large portions. We recommend this place to anyone looking to try authentic French food for a great price.
Local French Canadian cuisine. Good food & beverages. Good service. Well priced.
This restaurant is a must on your visit to Quebec City. What an excellent dining experience. This place is on all the recommended eating lists for a reason. We didn't have a single bad bite the entire dinner. The set menu has so much choice & is very reasonably priced for all that you get. Service was also amazing. We started with red wine which I actually enjoyed & I'm not a wine person at all, followed by apps, my partner ordered the beans, I had the escargot. Fresh, warm buns were brought out quickly each time we asked. Our soups were pea & french onion, both delicious. For our mains, I tried beef Wellington & he got the special of the night which was the turkey dinner. My beef Wellington had some kinda appley sauce that I wasn't sure about at first but everything paired so nicely together. It very much tasted like home cooking but in the best way. Very homey, full of comfort. For dessert we tried the bread pudding & maple creme brûlée. Some of the best creme brûlée ever! I will return on my next visit to the city. Can't say enough good things.
Value for money!!! Spending around CAD50 then you could have a set of French meal including a glass of house wine. Many choices for customers. The appetizer I chose-Wild Meat Cretons was full of meat, pork if I didn't remember wrongly. I liked the taste but couldn't have too much; then the accompanying sauce & the side dish(I guessed it was something like pickles) did a nice touch-lightened the grease. About the main dish, it was interesting! The puff pastry wrapped with salmon so it was crispy outside & soft inside. Nice together & seasoning. The sauerkraut also made the whole dish not too greasy. As for the dessert, I was not a fan of it since it was too sweet🤣 Anyway, I really enjoyed my food & the atmosphere here.
This is an awesome place! We've been here twice (pictured is our second time), & we love it. It's such a unique place with a lot of history, & the food is excellent! The set meal is great value, & we're always so full by the end. We got to try so many dishes & get a peek at French-Canadian cuisine. Strongly recommend! :)
Personally I don't get the food so maybe it's not my thing. There's a lot of other foods that I think taste better for the price point but this is a historic restaurant so maybe give it a try if you're into home style french cooking. I got the beef Wellington & my partner got the bison. I liked hers better but found the bison a bit dry. My Wellington felt overcooked so tougher than I like.

Being French-Canadian, I really enjoyed the quality & authentic favors, not to mention the presentation of this place. We had the great luck of being seated upstairs in the cosy intimate room in the back complete with real decor. The service (by Steven) was especially attentive & friendly.
The game (which we have had all over the world) was cooked to perfection, the best!
Beware, the salmon was way over cooked & dry. For dessert, we had the maple pie, ho la la...
