The house itself was lovely & oozed Christmas vibes. We were seated in a quiet area which was a former bedroom of the historical house. The staff were friendly & inviting. We appreciated the coat check at the door as we went during the snowy season, however, it wasn't supervised. The food was overpriced & didn't meet our expectations in terms of flavour or taste. We ordered the game meat pie & Quebec meat pie (I was expecting a tortiere, which it wasn't). The food was simply bland homestyle food. Not worth $40-$45/plate.
We had our Christmas dinner here yesterday & it was such a great experience! The atmosphere is so cozy & comfortable & our wonderful waiter Sam made us feel so welcome. The food is traditional & so delicious! We ordered "Grandma's Treat" which had meatballs, vegetables & the most delicious meat pie. I highly recommend if you're in the area & looking to scratch that home-cooking itch!
Provato a pranzo, caratteristico locale che al modico prezzo di $39,95 permette la scelta di 1 antipasto, 1 piatto principale, 1 dessert, 1 calice di vino o birra. Pietanze molto buone e gustose, dessert squisiti. Servizio attento e puntuale. Assolutamente raccomandato.
This was the best meal I had 7-day trip to Montreal & Quebec. It was suggested to us by our tour guide. The food was superb, especially the maple pie!
This is a special gem in Old Quebec! A quaint piece of history, uniquely decorated for Christmas & has such beautiful character. The meal was lovely & the service was excellent.
I rarely review anything unless it sparked some emotion - good or bad. For this one unfortunately it's ABUSIVELY OVER PRICED. Service is good - no matter how good can't "sugar-coat" bland food... especially at their price point. Please do try the maple pie - I would come back just for that a lone & SHARE it with my partner.
Do not recommend. Not worth the price at all. Very overpriced tourist trap. Food is mediocre. Maple pie was good. Since when is a fondue croquette? Bourginion was bland.
Amazing food !!!! The escargot, the duck poutine & the pie!!!! Amazing !!!!
Update Oct 25th, 2024: My parents still go here every time they are in QC. The atmosphere & decor haven't changed a bit, which is a great thing. The portions are still huge given how traditional the food is which is another way to say heavy & a lot of butter. So filling. So delicious. Original: Such a unique spot. From the architecture outside & the iconic red roof, to the slightly cramped, yet cozy decor inside, it really does stay true to it's name. Literally translated to at the ancient Canadians, it was like walking into an old world cabin decorated by everyone's favourite grandparents. The service was spectacular & the food was good. The Quebec Meat Pie had such a flaky & buttery crust & the meatball side packed such a powerful punch of flavour. The Pumpkin Soup was so light & needed a bit of salt, but overall nice & the crème brûlée was spectacular. It doesn't look caramelized, but it was & had a nice crunchy top shell.
Located in downtown Quebec City, this restaurant features traditional québécois cuisine. The house dates back to 1675, & is now a historical landmark. The exterior features a very traditional French house that is painted red & white. The interior walls are decorated with carved art pieces, & the ceiling lights shine through stained glass windows. The lunch special is a very good deal, which comes with a drink, bread & butter, a starter, a main dish, & a dessert. With extra fees you have the choice of upgraded dishes. The Lac St Jean Meat Pie is a unique dish made with bison, deer, elk, beef & pork filling. If you're down for the culinary adventure, this dish would be the perfect choice during cold days. The crust is buttery, flaky, & pairs well with the meat filling. The tomato fruit sauce on the side is homemade, & you can taste the tomato chunks along with its sweet & sour flavour profile. The maple syrup pie is another one of their signature desserts. The filling is very sweet, but the cream on top is unsweetened, which tones down the sweetness of the syrup. However, if you feel like something fruity, they also have other options such as a blueberry pie. Overall, a nice dinning experience, & the place was not super busy during a Friday late afternoon.
