Outstanding service, very friendly & accommodating, a real pleasure to be their guest. The three of us had the Table d'hote with different selections for appetizers & entrees, & it was phenomenal. Soup of the day was mushroom soup, probably the best I've ever tasted! The onion soup was equally delectable. I had the Quebec meat pie & meatball ragout, very tasty & the fruit ketchup was a nice complement. My wife had the chicken cordon bleu while our daughter had the duck poutine, all three dishes were amazing. A lovely evening out for us, such great hospitality & an experience to remember. Merci!
Dining inside what is considered the oldest house in Quebec was so charming. Our waitress was very friendly & the food was absolutely incredible! For appetizers, my family enjoyed the very cheesy escargot dish & my dad absolutely loved the French onion soup. In terms of entrees, the filet mignon dish was tasty & the meat pie (which I was looking forward to trying in Quebec) was better than I could have ever imagined & I really enjoyed its flaky crust. For desserts, we chose the chocolate pie & the maple crème brûlée, & they were nothing short of spectacular. In fact, the crème brûlée was the best I have ever eaten! Since ordering dishes individually can really add up, I recommend ordering in the form of a formule ($39.99+ for 1 drink + 1 appetizer + 1 entree + 1 dessert), which allows you to try a complete meal for a fraction of the cost of ordering each component individually. Overall, I enjoyed dining at Aux Anciens Canadiens & hope to be back again someday!
This restaurant offers traditional Quebec cuisine, with dishes like poutine & meat pie delivering the expected authentic flavors. It's highly recommended for those looking to experience traditional-style cooking. Besides the food, the decor & dining environment are also impressive. The building & wall paintings appear to have many years of history, & the classic menus & plates enhance the dining experience. Additionally, the service is very elegant, & the prices are reasonable, ensuring you leave satisfied & not hungry.
My husband & I enjoyed a wonderful meal here on our last night in Quebec City & were so pleased with our experience! Our waiter Sam was incredibly knowledgeable not only about every aspect of the menu but he also has a great knowledge of the building's history which was super cool to learn about! It's 350 years old, the oldest building in town which is super cool! We really enjoyed the atmosphere in the old house environment & were so happy we got seated upstairs by the fireplace with all the fun old decor & unique construction. It is so quaint & the food was amazing! My husband tried the meat pie & meatballs & I tried the bison with blueberry wine sauce. We also tried the caramel maple bread pudding & blueberry pie for dessert. Everything was great! We will definitely come back here again! A+++
So, we had heard so much about this restaurant as being a tradition Canadian food restaurant. The people were nice, friendly & accommodating but the food. The presentation was good but...... The chicken cordon bleu was so dry, even the sauce it was served with couldn't moisten it. The meatballs tasted like cardboard mixed with mystery meat. The meat pie was bland. Underwhelming meal. On the upside, the pea soup was good & so was dessert but how can you go wrong with maple syrup, cake & sugar.
We loved the atmosphere of this restaurant. The food was okay. The meat pie with meat balls had a flavour that my wife did not like at all. I found it okay but too much food. The salad with goat cheese on it had a weird smokey taste that our companion didn't enjoy. The Beef Wellington seemed to be the only dish at our table of 4 that was thoroughly enjoyed with no issues. Desserts were good. We sat upstairs & the waiter was efficient but didn't attend to the fact that I clearly identified that I am lactose/dairy intolerant. He brought my escargots appetizer covered with cheese! If we were to eat here again, we'd opt for the lunch special as dinner special (Table d'Hote at $69.95) was expensive & too much food. There are better & cheaper places to eat in Quebec City.
Food is great & our waiter was very nice! We had lunch here & it was $39 for drink, appetizer, main, & dessert. Simple great deal! I loved meat pie & maple caramel bread pudding! Our waiter was very kind & explained each dish. The place was like a little old house with cozy feeling. Would love to come back here again if I visit Quebec City in the future!
No matter how the food is, I have to say the atmosphere here is like dead while we visit.. I came here couple years ago & it was so welcoming. To start with, the lunch combo for $39. the meat pie smell & taste like on shelf for 10 days, not fresh at all. Don't do the meat pie, ground meat not good quality at all. Not recommend ordering this dish( forget the name, but it has bison, red deer, elk $65) it tastes like raw meet even fully cooked. Their maple syrup pie was soooo good!!
The atmosphere fit the vibe they were going. Food was traditional, & the desserts were really good but the meals were a little unseasoned because Canadians I guess don't have much seasoning. Crème brûlée was so good & so was the pie.
