Came here with my mom for an early dinner. What a fantastic gem this restaurant is! The service is very friendly, the food is authentic French-Canadian prepared from scratch, & the atmosphere is cozy; dine in a repurposed Old Quebec family house with wood-burning fireplace & low ceiling. It's definitely a romantic spot for a date too.
Thank you so much for the unforgettable meal! We will be back!
Un excellent repas & un service exceptionnel, le tout pour un prix plutôt abordable (le midi) au vu de la qualité des produits.
We had a wonderful meal & we were very pleasantly surprised to see some vegan options (beyond just the salad)! The pea soup is also vegan which is a must-try!
Beautiful exterior, oldest building & very attractive from the outside but tourist trap inside. Service was good & prices are very deceiving. We were there for dinner, quite empty. Cushions & colours needed updating although it's meant to look from the last era.. 1860s? Prices for dinner set start at C$69.95 but almost everything you choose has a surcharge. My beef wellington had a $8-9 surcharge, my husband's seafood platter had a $26 surcharge, even the crème brûlée had a $4 surcharge. So the dinner ended up to be about C$120 each. Had to ask for bread which was not automatically served, but came warm & nice. Drafty seat by the window. Service was good but wouldn't recommend it if I was honest.
Great experience! English travellers in the off-season & treated very well. Atmosphere was very cool & the service was welcoming & warm.
If you are looking for traditional québécois food in a historic building - this is the place. Food is excellent & the staff are happy to have you there !
Cozy interior, exceptional staff, delicious food, & reasonable prices. So glad I got to dine here in Quebec!
We had the pleasure of dining at Aux Anciens Canadiens during our vacation in Quebec City, & it was a memorable experience that combined history, atmosphere, & traditional Quebecois cuisine. The restaurant is located on the main floor of a historic house, with low ceilings & thick stone walls that give it a warm, rustic charm reminiscent of the homes in Little Women. A central fireplace serves as a stunning centerpiece, adding to the cozy & intimate ambiance. The upper floor houses private dining areas & bathrooms, making it a versatile space for both intimate & larger gatherings. Its location in the heart of Old Quebec makes it a convenient & inviting stop for an authentic culinary experience.
We started with a selection of appetizers: the Fondue Parmesan au Bison Fumé & aux Fromages d'Ici was excellent - rich, smoky, & perfectly melted. The Coquille de Crevettes Géantes & Pétoncles au Gratin was good, though not as memorable as the fondue. The shrimp & lobster bisque was a bit underwhelming - not bad, but lacking the depth of flavor we were expecting.
For the main courses, we tried Les Trois Mignons - a trio of perfectly cooked & flavorful cuts of meat, which was the highlight of the meal. The Filet de Boeuf Wellington was well-executed & interesting, with a delicate pastry & tender meat. The Bourguignon de Bison was rich & hearty, showcasing the deep flavors of bison beautifully.
Dessert did not disappoint. The Tarte au Sirop d'Érable was a must-try for anyone who loves sweet treats - rich, sticky, & delicious. The Crème Brûlée à l'Érable was perfectly creamy with a crisp caramelized top. The Pain Perdu à l'Érable was another standout - perfectly cooked & balanced in sweetness.
The service was attentive & friendly without being intrusive, & the overall atmosphere was warm & relaxed, with low noise levels that made it easy to enjoy conversation. However, while the historical charm is part of the restaurant's appeal, the décor & furnishings could benefit from an update to balance the old-world feel with modern comfort.
Overall, Aux Anciens Canadiens offers a charming & authentic Quebecois experience with a few standout dishes & a cozy atmosphere. It's a place that leans into its historical roots while delivering a solid, if slightly uneven, culinary experience.
We really enjoyed our experience dining here. We both loved our meals-we each had the table d'hôte. Everything tasted like it was prepared with love, not too salty, full of home cooked flavours. It was a real treat to have a traditional Québécoise meal in a historical building. Nice art. Our server, Sam, & his colleague were friendly, attentive & charming. This was the whole experience you could hope for when visiting a place & wanting to discover & learn through food.
Um local em harmonia com sua localizaçao. Pratos bons, preços razoáveis, serviço muito bom.
