The restaurant interior was very nice was decorated with art, carvings, & motifs from Tunisia & North Africa. Community seemed tight-knit between the owners & regular customers & I really respected the hospitality from the restaurant managers. Our group even got a complementary salad (not sure if this was because our group was ~7 though). I ordered the Couscous Tunisien which was around 23 CAD, the dish had an amazing flavor with hearty chunks of lamb & potatoes to combo the couscous. Portion size was definitely worth the price-or even more-& the manager even offered to wrap our seconds with plastic wrap on an aluminum tin so we could take some back to the hotel. Overall, I recommend Carthage Express to anyone visiting Quebec City.
A Hidden Gem in Quebec City: Carthage Express Delivers a Terrific Family Meal!
We recently had the absolute pleasure of dining at Carthage Express, a charming Tunisian restaurant tucked away at 20 Côte du Palais in the heart of Old Quebec City, & it was nothing short of spectacular! This cozy eatery is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic, flavorful cuisine served with genuine warmth & hospitality.
From the moment we walked in, the owner greeted us with an enormous smile & a welcoming vibe that instantly made our family of four feel at home. The atmosphere is a delightful blend of cozy & stylish, with authentic Tunisian decor that transports you straight to the heart of North Africa. The vibrant colors & thoughtful touches in the design added a special charm to our dining experience.
The food? Simply phenomenal! Every dish was a burst of Tunisian flavor, prepared with love & care. We opted for the Trio Shish Taouk, & oh my gosh, it was a highlight of our trip! The chicken was perfectly seasoned, tender, & juicy, paired with wonderfully crispy, flavorful potatoes & fresh salads that added a delightful crunch. The portions were generous, & the prices-around $12-13 CAD per person-felt like a steal for such high-quality, homemade fare. The couscous was another standout, spiced to perfection & served with tender meats & vegetables that left us all raving. We also couldn't resist the mint tea, which was refreshing & the perfect complement to our meal.
What truly sets Carthage Express apart is the exceptional service. The owner's kindness & attentiveness made us feel like royalty. Despite the restaurant being busy, they took the time to offer personalized recommendations & ensure every detail of our meal was perfect. It's clear that this is a family-run gem where passion for Tunisian cuisine & customer satisfaction shine through.
For a family looking for a delicious, affordable, & heartwarming dining experience, Carthage Express is an absolute must-visit in Quebec City. We're already looking forward to our next trip back to savor more of their incredible dishes-don't miss the merguez or the homemade Tunisian pastries! Thank you to the wonderful team at Carthage Express for making our family meal unforgettable. Five stars all the way
Dined early in the evening while passing through Quebec; very friendly service & tasty food. The waitress spoke only French but the menu had English. Small & charming place. We had lamb & sausage wrap combos. My husband's favorite was the potato side -- delicious! But all good, Nice combination of salad, potatoes, & wrap. Made our evening enjoyable.
Our first impression was a bit concerning but it was early in the evening & there was a small staff. Once the food arrived we were pleasantly surprised & the service was exceptional. The Greek style potatoes were so delicious, meat & meal portions were filling. The atmosphere was authentic. Prices were very reasonable & affordable, certainly for what you receive. Highly recommend & would definitely return.
Incredible food served by lovely people. The Shish Taouk/Chicken was delicious & well worth the price. The woman who helped us recommended the Couscous which was exceptional. We chose the Royale Couscous which comes with lamb, chicken, sausage, some carrots, & potatoes, & everything was perfect. We came for lunch & it was quick & priced very well for the large portion.
Loved the food here! The couscous was very well made & the server was great as well. Their potatoes were so crispy & fresh.
Wow. Wow. Wow. The atmosphere & lighting were enough to guarantee this place a 5-Star review. Beautiful colours, magnificent lanterns, mosaics & more. We had the shish taouk with potatoes & salad + drink for $14. Everything on the meal was scrumptious, & supremely well-priced for quality & flavour. Absolute gem of a find, with a friendly man behind the counter.
We ordered a shish taouk (chicken) wrap special with the half & half (salads & potatoes) & a falafel wrap. Delicious salads with a variety of vegetables. Potatoes were crunchy with great seasoning. Some of the tastiest falafel we've had. The bread for the wrap was toasted & slightly crispy. The sauce was yummy. This was the perfect amount for two people to share. Forgot to take a picture before eating.
I didn't want to spend $26. Or higher for a diner plate- since it was going back to my hotel I Googled restaurants on the way I found this little spot I wasn't expecting much, I ordered the Speacil Trio Shish Taouk Oh my gosh, it was really good! The fresh are potatoes season wonderfully. The staff is very pleasant. The restaurant is simple, extremely casual, which was perfect after a long day of walking throughout Quebec 😀
Their prices are good. Very reasonable! I absolutely recommend this little place for a good lunch or dinner!
